Your rates are a ladder, not a single number. You set them by price band, so you can keep 50% of a $40 top and only 15% of a $9,000 bag without renegotiating either one.
Where to set them
Go to Account → Preferences → Pricing.
Each row is one price band, with two rates on it:
- Price: the range the row covers, from one amount to the next. Leave the last row's "to" blank and it covers everything above.
- Consign: your cut when the item sells.
- Buyout: what you pay the consignor up front, as a percentage of what you expect the item to resell for.
Use Add price range for another band, and Save when you're done.
Leave a rate blank if you don't offer it at that price. A blank buyout on your cheapest band means you'll take those items on consignment but won't buy them outright, which is different from offering $0.
The two columns run in opposite directions, and it catches people out. Consign is your cut. Buyout is theirs. A 40% consign and a 40% buyout are very different deals. Your consignors see the consign rate inverted, as what they keep.
Store credit is a separate rate
Store credit is its own payout rate, not a bonus on top of one. It lives on the Store credit screen, not in Pricing, because it has two lanes off two different bases:
- Consignment credit is a share of what the item eventually sells for, credited when it sells.
- Buyout credit is a share of expected resale, credited straight away.
That is what lets one item quote "$50 cash or $70 credit".
Which rate applies to an item
Rates resolve most specific first:
- A rate set on the item itself
- A rate set on that consignor
- A rate set on that category
- The price band from Pricing
- Your store's base rate
So Pricing is your default. Anything you've set on a consignor or a category overrides it.
When a rate locks
The rate locks when the consignor accepts your offer. Changing your Pricing afterwards does not change anything already agreed, and it cannot be edited on an accepted consignment. To use a different rate for one item, create a manual upload for that consignor.
How the sale is calculated
- Commission applies to the sale price minus any marketplace fees. Shipping and tax are excluded.
- Sold for $100 on Depop with $10 in fees, so commission is worked out on $90.
- Bundled sales are calculated per item, since each carries its own rate.
